You have indicated that life insurance proceeds are not subject to estate taxation. You are incorrect.

In a typical situation where a husband or wife owns a life insurance policy on his/her life the death proceeds will be included in his/her estate for tax purposes.  It is often possible to avoid this problem by having the insurance policy owned by another entity. The source of confusion, here, is that life insurance proceeds are generally not subject to income taxation.
